Chard & Clevedon Open Meet 2009, a Big Success

Chard and Clevedon hosted their second open meet on Saturday 27th June 2009 Hutton Moor Pool, Weston-super-mare. 

Three Chard Swimmers received Top Boy Awards for their respective age groups: Paul Harrison, 10 yrs, Jake Hallam, 13 yrs, and James Rutherford, 14 yrs were awarded trophies for collecting the most amount of points in various events throughout the day.

Whilst  Lauren Harrison,  Hannah Pullinger and Jamie Spiller finished 2nd in their age groups followed closely by Daniel Andrews, Oliver Bilbie, Elsie Emery and Jessica Mathieson who finished 3rd ; a good result as the meet played host to hundreds of competitors from across the South West.

Another achievement came from eleven year old Mollie Simpson who obtained a silver speed badge for the 50m Freestyle event, she achieved a time of 35.73, a personal best – well done Mollie.

There was a total of 24 wins with gold medals awarded to:

Jake Hallam (100m backstroke, 100m  breaststroke, 200m butterfly); Jamie Pullinger (50m backstroke, 50m and 200m breaststroke); Daniel Andrews ( 100m butterfly and 100m freestyle); Jack Fish (100m butterfly and 100m freestyle); Paul Harrison ( 200m  backstroke and 200m Individual Medley);  Oliver Bilbie (50m backstroke) Rebecca Bennett (100m Breaststroke); Elsie Emery (50m butterfly); Wilf Gosden (200m breaststroke); Lauren Harrison (200m butterfly); Elisha Hawkins (50m breaststroke); Jade Hawkins (50m backstroke); Jessica Mathieson (200m breaststroke); Hannah Pullinger (100m freestyle), Madeline Ryder (200m freestyle), Jamie Spiller (100m backstroke) and Luke van den Barselaar (200m backstroke).

Numerous Swimmers also finished in top 8 positions.  A positive result for Chard and District Swimming Club, these were Elisha Hawkins, Chloe Bryant, Charlie Kendall, Lewis Pearson, Lauren and Paul Harrison, Oliver Bilbie, Jay Kindred, Joe Spurway,  Jodie Hake,  Jessica Mathieson,  Hannah Pullinger, Beckie and James Rutherford, Amy Rodger, Ben Fowler, Daniel Andrews, Jonathon Crees, Jamie Spiller, Oliver Carslake, Jack Bradford, Jack Fish, Lydia Riches, Steph and Jake Hallam, Joshua Bolton, Jake Harvey, Wilf Gosden,  Luke van den Barselaar, Huw- Khan Davies,  Maddie Barber, Elsie and Marsha Emery, Laura Coombs, Adam Reid, Saskia Osborne, Jade Hawkins, Zoe Spurway, Mollie Simpson, Melissa Hanson, and Oliver Bilbie.

Other competitors participating were:

Daniella and Tamsin Edge, Carrie Lewis, Ella Harvey, Lauren van den Barselaar, Nathan Roberts , Ashley and Jamie Lillington, Sam Minson, Barnaby Down, Iain and Susan Ross, Lewis Evans and Rosie Bolton.

Organisation was key to make the event a success; the assistance of the gala organisers in particular Rose Bennett and adult helpers on the day was much appreciated, as was the encouragement and support from team mates and spectators.
