Eleven members from Chard and District swimming club participated in the 2009 South West Sprint Championships at Gloucester on Sunday 28th June.
Jake Hallam, Lucy Down, Jack Fish, Rebecca Bennett, Jamie Pullinger, Luke van den Barselaar, Abigail Dare, Jodie Hake, Tessa Down, Hannah Pullinger and Madeline Ryder had previously obtained South West Regional times. To take part in these events, they had to achieve SW Counties Qualifying times and take part in a SW Championship since the winter Championships held in November 2008.
All swimmers competed in five events : 50m Breaststroke , 50m Butterfly, 50m Freestyle, 50m Backstroke and the 100m Individual Medley.
Two Swimmers performed exceptionally well against some very tough competition from swimmers across the South West Region.
Jake Hallam was rewarded with the Top Boy Trophy for the 13 years age group. He achieved a total of 2582 BAGCAT points which he collected throughout the day. Whilst Lucy Down, 17, obtained 3rd position overall with 2324 GB points. Well done to both swimmers for their efforts on the day and in the time leading up to the competition.
Madeline Ryder; 14 also enjoyed the day , achieving two 14 years and under club records in the 100m Individual Medley: 1 -14- 41 and in the 50m Freestyle: 29-01.
Other top six finishes within their respective age groups came from: Jack Fish; 15 (4th) Rebecca Bennett; 16 (5th) Jamie Pullinger; 10 (6th) and Luke van den Barselaar; 13 (6th).
