Chard and District Swimming Club

Junior League Winning Team at Bath 2009

Congratulations,  for a great result!

Saturday 20th June 2009 saw the final round of the Southern Junior League at Bath.It was a great result as Chard and District Swimming club were 7 points behind Bradford on Avon with just four events to go. However, 3 wins and a 2nd place from the cannon team in the final event plus Poole finishing strongly, enabled Chard to secure first position and win the trophy for their team effort!
Nine years old Jade Hawkins performed exceptionally well winning both her individual events; 9 years 25m Backstroke and 25m Freestyle, obtaining personal bests and helping significantly towards Chards final result.
Elisha Hawkins, Tamsin Edge, Susan Ross and Ella Harvey also performed well for the Nine year old age group and in the 4 x 25m Freestyle they achieved 1st place.
Whilst Jamie Pullinger achieved a win in the 10 yrs Boys 50m Butterfly and the 10 yrs Boys 50m Freestyle.
Oliver Bilbie also claimed a 1st in the Boys 11 years 50m Backstroke and was involved with the Boys 11 yrs 4 x25m medley team and with the help of Jay Kindred, Joshua Bolton and Jamie Lillington they succeeded in winning their race.
Daniel Walker continued the winning streak in the 50m Freestyle where he broke his 12 yrs club record in a time of 28.54 and also reached 1st position in the Boys 50m Breaststroke – his number one stroke!
He was part of the Boys 12/u 4 x 25m Freestyle Relay team and gave fellow team mates Matthew Hall, Oliver Bilbie and Jay Kindred a lead which they continued to build upon throughout the race enabling them to reach 1st position. Daniel swam in the 12/u 4 x 25m Individual Medley with Oliver Bible, Jake Harvey and Matthew Hall who also won their race. Both Tessa Down and Jodie Hake shone for the 12 year old girls. Tessa achieved a 1st in her 50m Breaststroke event whilst Jodie won her 50m Backstroke event. Both girls, alongside Lauren Harrison and Jessica Matheson joined forces in the 4 x 25m Freestyle relay and were awarded 1st position.
Congratulation goes to Elisha Hawkins, who achieved her bronze speed badge in the 25m Freestyle relay with a time of 17.67.
A special mention goes to the club coaches : John and Pam Farrant, June Turner, Roger Aston and adult team helpers, particularly Kate Down who has helped organise the Junior League for eleven years and has seen 4 of her daughters through a total of 33 junior league galas overall - her contribution to the club and the swimmers has been invaluable! Also a big thank you to all of the 12 year old swimmers who supported team mates and competed in their final junior league gala: Abigail Dare, Lauren Harrison, Jessica Mathieson, Jodie Hake, Tessa Down, Daniel Walker and Matthew Hall.
