National
Qualifier for Walker
Triumphant cheers
and applause echoed around the Millfield Pool from Chard supporters
as Daniel Walker achieved his first National time; 1-20-38 in the
100m Breaststroke on Sunday 24th May 2009.
It
was the Last Chance meet for National times which proved no
challenge for Daniel who had narrowly missed out on a National time
in the 200m Breaststroke the previous day.
Regardless of that, sheer determination and technique allowed
him to conquer the time required for National qualification.
Daniel 12 who
attends Huish Episcopi Science College and is a credit to the
swimming club. He is a focused member and trains at a consistently
high standard four - five times a week. He is naturally gifted at
all four strokes but Breaststroke appears to be his forté. This
year alone he has obtained five South West Regional times in the
100m and 200m Breaststroke, the 100m and 200m Freestyle and the 200m
Individual Medley. In the first two rounds of the Southern Junior
League he posted several notable performances for both Breaststroke
and Freestyle in individual events. He also achieved 3rd Place for
the 12 years Boys BAGCATS in the Somerset Age Groups, alongside
Swimmer of the Month for his efforts in March and May. His success
in obtaining a National time is a result of how much he has
accomplished so far in 2009.
Daniel’s Dad
Barry said “We are very relieved and proud of him!”
This is the first
National for both Walker and Chard and District Swimming Club this
year. All of the squad and coaches John and Pam were thrilled for
him. On Behalf of the club I would like to wish him the best of luck
for the end of July when he will compete in Sheffield. We know he
will continue to build upon his performances, as he is one talented
swimmer!
